Amazing Grace

Sep 4, 2016 Sunday AM
Ephesians 2:1-10

There are some common misperceptions about the Person of God and His grace. As we remember Jesus today in this Communion service, we should be reminded of what grace really is for clarity and encouragement. :)

  1. A Simple Definition
    Grace is unmerited favor...

  2. An Expanded Definition
Grace is the benevolent activity of God to redeem and restore His image in the people He loves.

  3. Some Implications
    1. Grace is not withheld because of demerit.

    2. Grace is not lessened (or increased) because of demerit.

    3. We are saved by grace (through faith) AND we are kept by grace. "The gifts are not gifts if they are paid for..." But the foundation of grace is the cross. God cannot "look the other way." Christ took the penalty and gives us the benefits.

    4. The believer lives IN and BY grace. Growing in grace is the goal of God's people. This is transforming in many ways.

Conclusion

The "table" is a regular reminder of grace of Christ, the blessing of His favor and our unity in Him.

Application

As recipients of grace we should become "reflectors and dispensers" of grace. Be honest before the Lord, if there have been attempts on your part to change other people through condemnation or manipulation, confess this, come to Christ and learn from Him "a better way."
