Study Notes

Contrary to popular belief confusion is not a "State." A lot of people live there and have had that zip code for many years. However, confusion is not a state that the followers of Jesus need to live in perpetually. Jesus said that those who follow Him did not have to walk in darkness. What did He mean by that? Why are we confused?

  1. God is Light
    1. God is not confused
His perfections and beauties are unsullied by the confusion of this world. The Maker of light understands.
    2. God reveals
God is knowledge and reveals Himself and the truth we need to know. We can have clarity about some things. We have to rest in His light about the others.
  2. Advent Light
    • Isaiah 9:2
    • Luke 1:78-79
    • John 1:1-14
    • John 8:12
    • John 9:5
  3. Why Am I Confused?
    1. A Relationship problem
We cannot walk in the light until we are children of the Light. This is a relationship received since it was made possible by the death, burial and resurrection of Jesus Christ.

    2. A Request problem
See James 1:5. If we lack wisdom, we should ask. God answers the person who really wants to know...and wants to know to "do it and not to vote on it."
    3. A Resource problem
In putting together a "life," some assembly is required and we have good instructions. The "Word is a lamp...a light..."
    4. A Response problem
Disobedience can actually make life MORE confusing than it already is...we must "obey our way to light." See 1 John 1:6!
    5. A Rest problem
Sometimes we're confused because we want or demand information that is not ours to have. At some point we need to rest like a baby...see Psalm 131.

"I believe in Christianity as I believe the Sun has risen, not only because I see it, but because by it I see everything else." ~ C.S. Lewis

"God is Light, in Him is no darkness at all..."

Some questions for family, small group discussion or personal reflection
