I borrowed those two words from Ajith Fernando who used them to describe humanity’s nearly insatiable desire to worship.  There is “something” deep within all of us that is wired for worship.  We may not call it that but what do you think is happening on Saturday and Sunday afternoons in the fall?  Hundreds of thousands of people are braving cold temperatures, rain, snow and sometimes heat to cheer for their team.  To one degree or another, it’s a form of worship.  There is praise, giving, cheering, clapping, crying, laughing, prayer and despair.  To be so moved by what is happening on the field means values are being formed and affected.  Don’t think I am being super-pious here, I enjoy a College Football game too.  But, the frenzy these games create is not commensurate to their actual value for life and living.  Sports may not be your “thing” but there are plenty of other options to distract us from our worship of the one, true and living God.  Tim Keller wrote that our hearts are “idol factories.”  It’s a fight to not let something or someone take over the center place in our heart.  I believe we were created by God and for God and that our hearts will only be truly in harmony with reality when God is central.  Worshipping God is not only the evidence of His centrality to our lives, it is the means to that end.  If God is not “center-stage” in your life today, choose worship.  If you are thinking properly about Him and His place in the universe and your life, choose worship.  God is looking for people who will worship Him in spirit and in truth…be one!
