Green Pastures and Still Waters

John Lennon wrote it, the Beatles sang it, it sounds really good!  "All you need is love, love, love is all you need."  I wish it was that simple.  Love is only simple until you add...people.  When we add people to the equation, things get a little bit complex.  Some people are hard to love.  There are many people to love; family members, neighbors, needy people, lost people, people here and people there, people we know and people we don't know yet and we are to love them all!  Understanding the complexity of love, Paul wrote to the Philippians, "And this is my prayer: that your love may abound more and more in knowledge and depth of insight, so that you may be able to discern what is best and may be pure and blameless until the day of Christ..."  October 17 we'll be studying the new commandment in John 13:34 and considering whether it is actually possible to do what Jesus said or not.  It seems like a pretty tall order for mortals Wink.  What do you think?
There are a number of over used phrases in the English language.  For example, consider the phrase, "That's what it's all about."  I have heard hunters, coaches, race car drivers and dog trainers all use that phrase.  I have heard party animals and little kids and even a few "saints" use the idiom about all kinds of activities.  It begs the question, "What is it all about?"  In our text for 10.10.10, we'll look at what Jesus Christ said it was all about.  His worldview will certainly clash with the worldview of most people I know.  A Theocentric view of what life is about and how to live it is unpopular in a culture of "me."  In John 13:31, 32, Jesus uses a form of the word "glory" five times.  Jesus spoke and lived in the reality that everything is from God, sustained by God and for God's glory.  We are here for God.  We have the capacity and the responsibility to seek Him, know Him, love Him, obey Him and glorify Him.  The chief end of man is to glorify God and enjoy Him forever.  That is what it is all about AND actually living in light of that will "change your life forever"Smile.  What is competing with this worldview in your world right now?
