This coming Sunday evening we had scheduled three of our missional partners to share an update and prayer requests. The governor’s orders require the postponement or cancellation of that meeting so I wanted to take this occasion to ask you to pray for those who were going to present that night. HAVE MERCY is assisting the homeless population of Greenville and continues to operate. They have been told that one of the economic results of the governor’s orders will be an upswing in homelessness. They are praying and getting prepared. It won’t seem right. Easter morning at home? If you are one of those people who pick that one Sunday of the year to go to church, you’re in for a long wait until next year J. The one Easter Sunday that I missed previous to this one was March 31, 2013. I had a Gall Bladder attack on Tuesday and had the “thing” removed on Good Friday. Obviously I wasn’t ready to preach that Easter. I wrote this in my journal, “I can still have high thoughts of God today, rejoice in His power over death, receive His forgiveness and abide in His love. My primary goal is to glorify Him wherever I am in sickness and recovery.” Even though that was quite a few years ago, I still remember how hard it was to be home when everyone else was gathering. This year we’ll all be home! There will be no gathering, no extended family dinners, no packed restaurants and no opportunity to show off new Easter clothes, (well, there’s always social media). Actually, if you think about it, this Easter might be more like the first one. On the morning Jesus rose from the dead, there were no church services, no fancy clothes, no big dinners and no cantatas. Believers were sheltered at home fearing what Rome might do to anyone that identified with Jesus. However, Jesus had told the woman at the well that the Father was looking for people who would worship Him in spirit and in truth. He never said it would always be in a church service. I still think the gathering is ideal but since we’ll be apart, let’s worship the risen Lord in spirit and in truth from where we are. The Father is looking for those who will…will you?
